Jammu, September 15(Scoop News)- The Institution of Engineers (India), Jammu Centre today celebrated 46th Engineers’ day here with the Minister for Roads & Buildings and Mechanical Engineering Abdul Majid Wani as the chief Guest.
The Engineers’ Day is celebrated every year across the country on September 15 to commemorate the birth anniversary of country’s legendary Engineer, Bharat Ratna Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya.
The Minister paid floral tribute to legendary Engineer of the country and highlighted contributions that the great Engineer made for the development and prosperity of the country, saying that he was internationally recognized as genius in harnessing water resources of the country. He successfully designed and construct several bridges, dams and implemented irrigation and drinking water schemes all over the country, he added.
Highlighting the role engineering professionals in the society he called upon them to be innovative and use their skills towards sustainable development within the available resources. He termed engineering community the valued human resource which contributes in the development of the country by formulating projects of public importance like roads, tunnels, railway lines, water supply schemes and irrigation projects. He called upon the engineer community to follow the footsteps of Sir Visversvaraya and like him contribute in nation building and earn name and fame.
The Minister said that today’s scenario is totally different that of past era. The credit of constructing roads to link far-off areas with the urban areas taken up across the country and in Jammu and Kashmir goes to the Engineering fraternity which worked overnight to complete these projects, he added. He said that the road connectivity has been increasing day by day which have also promoted trade and commerce activities in rural areas and help to improve socio- economic condition of the people living there.
The Minister complimented the recipients of the award presented by the Institution of Engineers every year to recognize the extraordinary services by the members, saying that they have been honored for reorganizing their services and contributions towards the society.
Responding to the demands put forth by the engineers, the Minister said that many of their issues have already been addressed, adding that rest of them would be addressed in a time bound manner.
On the occasion the Minister honoured Er B L Rawal and Er Rajesh Kumar Angural, by presenting R L Sharma Memorial Gold Medal and Rudra Bhagwati Silver Medal for presenting the best and the 2nd best technical papers respectively. He also honoured some other engineers for their lifetime achievement and outstanding services rendered in the field of Engineering and Technology.
The Minister also released first issue of 11th volume of quarterly news letter of Jammu Local Centre.
Seminar on the theme “Frugal Engineering-Achieving more with fewer Resources” was also held on the occasion in which 7 engineers presented papers.
