Afghan Governor Asks Assistance for Pakistani Refugees
Peshawar: Governor of an eastern Afghan province has appealed the international aid organizations and central Afghan government to increase assistance for the Pakistani refugees that migrated from conflict-torn Bajaur Agency tribal area.
Talking to reporters in Asad Abad, center of Konar province, Governor Syed Fazlullah Wahedi said people from the nearest tribal agency, Bajaur, have been migrated to Konar in thousands due to the ongoing fighting between the militants and Pakistani forces.
‘They are provided with some assistance and basic facilities but as winter has approached and the weather is likely becoming severe and harsher, we appeal the international aid organizations and central Afghan government to increase their assistance for these refugees to avoid any possible human tragedy,’ he added.
According to reliable sources, around 30 thousand people of Bajuar Agency have migrated to Konar where refugees camps are established for them and assistance provided by the Afghan government.
