Amateur Golf Champ Maria Jose Uribe in Second Place at U.S. Women's Open
After one round of the U.S. Women's Open at Interlachen Country Club in Edina, MN, Maria Jose Uribe, an amateur, is in second place.
Uribe, a native of Bucaramanga, Columbia is the reigning U.S. Women's Amateur champion. She posted a four under 69 on Thursday and trails South Korea's Ji Young Oh by two strokes. Maria Jose Uribe is one of two amateurs in the top ten after one round at the open. She is joined by American Sydnee Micheals who is tied for seventh after shooting a one under 72. Both women are teammates on the UCLA Bruins golf team.
The Two amateurs have their work cut out for them and need to perform flawlessly for three more days at the challenging Interlachen Country Club. Christie Kerr, last years Open champion, is tied for 16th at minus one and the world number one, Lorena Ochoa, is one shot behind her at even par.
Second round coverage will be televised on ESPN on Friday, June 27, starting at 3 p.m. EDT.
