Ayurveda's Miracle Drug Creates Super Babies

July 05, 2008 Ayurveda,the ancient and traditional system of medicine and health care which has it's roots in India,offers a new drug called 'Sujat'.This drug is touted to be a 'dream' drug that has wonderful properties.It is said to ensure an easy pregnancy and also helps to deliver a baby of much superior medical and physical health.
Though the medicine has been available in the Indian market for twelve years now,it is only recently that it is grabbing the attention of the medical fraternity in the US.Doctors at the National Institution of Health,Bethesda,Maryland,have shown keen interest in the drug and are seeking to conduct a colloborative clinical trial.Detailed experimentations with the drug at St.George and KEM Hospitals in Mumbai,India have proved that it significantly improved the fetal outcome in terms of preventing pregnancy induced hypertension(PIH) and recurrent pregnancy loss.
The average weight of an Indian new born is 2.5 kg - almost a kilogram less than babies of other origins.But doctors said that pregnant women taking this capsule had given birth to babies weighing almost 4 kg.According to Dr.Y.M.Nandanwar,head of gynaecology,Sion Hospital in Mumbai,India,the drug enhances the development of the baby and keeps him/her away from physical ailments.The composition of Sujat rests on the perception that the environment within the uterus holds the key to growth of the child.Its ingredients include herbs like amla,gokhru and ashwagandha.
According to Dr.H.S.Palep - one of the brains behind the drug,Allopathy drugs miss out on the micro-nutrients that are essential for fetal birth weight and eventual growth.The drug sujat is administered on the mother from the time of conception till the baby is delivered,and can be continued throughout the lactating period.
However,inspite of the efficacy of the drug,no scientific trial has been conducted to check how long it protects a child from ailments.Hence,Dr.H.S.Palep is now planning a joint study with researchers from Boston University Medical School to clinically prove the efficacy of the drug and it's miraculous properties.This study,to be conducted on 200-300 pregnant women,will answer the queries about the drug.
