Baguio City Flower Festival starts



Baguio City - The annual flower festival in the summer capital of the Philippines had started with a grand opening held last Feb. 1, 2008. A welcome parade and ceremony was participated and attended by the different sectors and city officials signaling a cheerful celebration. The month long celebrations will highlight various activities that will end in March 2, 2008.


The city officials and organizers of this year’s flower festival have assured the locals and visitors of more exciting presentations. The attractions of the festival is the much anticipated street dancing parade and the grand float parade which will be held on Feb,23 & 24 respectively.


The interesting and full of energy street dancing parade would become more exciting because of invited participants from the different schools in the provinces. The street dancing is actually a competition among schools which has been a tradition since in the early years of the festival.


But the grandest of the occasion is the float parade where all the sectors participates and displays their floats bedecked with locally produced flowers done in a colorful and artistic design and distinctive craftsmanship. The floats really attract not only the locals but foreign tourists from the US and some EU countries.


Business establishments are already bustling with activities. Hotels and inns nearly fully booked. The city government have launched “market encounter” at the famed Burnham Park to cater to visitors. The flower festival allows people to enjoy and feel the excitement that nature gives because flowers inspire life.
