Being Watched On YouTube
Google faces a major concern now with a federal judge ordering it to trn over to Viacom records of which users watched which videos on YouTube.YouTube is the Web's largest video site.
YouTube users are a concerned lot now as the orders would mean that they would be watched and their privacy is being intruded. But Google and Viacom said that they were hoping to come up with a way to protect the anonymity and privacy of the site's visitors.
Viacom also said that the information would be safeguarded by a protective order that restricts access to the data to outside lawyers, who will use it only for pressing Viacom's $1 billion copyright suit against Google.
The order has now raised doubts amongst web users as it means that there is an inherent risk associated with companies like Google that collect huge amounts of private information that could be misused or fall into the hands of third parties.
Viacom wants the viewing data partly to he it determine the extent to which YouTube's success was built on the popularity of copyrighted clips illegally posted to the site.
