Bridget Jones and the edge of Reason? What was that?

I'm really sorry that I did not have a British/English dictionary handy or I might have understood Bridget Jones, The Edge of REason.  To be sure I could not quite move beyond all the pale people running about.  Okay, I guess the movie was set in merry London so that would make it a British genre story.  Again, as the writing included so much of the queens English, I found it especially difficult trying to guess what the characters were saying.

I love British satire and characters such as Benny Hill, and who was that other person that I love so much but that I have forgotten?  Nevermind.  In truth I found it a sad little movie.  And how did the writer manage to get the word 'shagging' into every scene?  And what on earth is that?  Shagging?
