Crazy Return For Abreu?
Sebastián Abreu was always a player that had a reputation of going where the money was. That attitude was best exemplified when he left reigning Argentine champs River Plate to play with Beitar Jerusalem. Now his move seemed to have backfired on him as the club owes him moneys from the matches that he had already played with the Israeli side. Due to this pending debt, Beitar will not be able to use him throughout the tournament. Abreu was absent from Beitar´s season opener and will most likely not be able to play. Beitar were also eliminated in the second round of the Champions League qualifiers against Wisla Krakow, making his participation in any tournament null. River Plate have now stepped in to repatriate the Uruguayan international and have him participate exclusively in the Copa Sudamericana. Abreu would not be able to participate in the Argentine Apertura as the deadline for registering players has long passed. Abreu was part of Oscar Washington Tabárez´ callup when Uruguay face Colombia and Ecuador in the upcoming South American qualifiers for the 2010 World Cup.
