Despite Favorable Ruling, Romanian Girl That Was Raped Will Have Abortion In Britain
It was at least one day that the courts in Romania had issued a ruling in favor of an 11-year-old pregnant girl and her family. The girl was 21 weeks into her pregnancy when the issue was ruled. In Romania, there is a 14-week limit in which one can get an abortion. However, many religious groups have opposed the ruling. They had tried to pressure the courts to rule against the girl and her family.
Abortions can be carried out past 14 weeks if the circumstances of the pregnancy place the would-be mothers in grave danger.
She was allegedly raped by her uncle. While it has been ruled that the girl can get an abortion in Romania, it will not be the case. Instead of having the abortion in Romania, the girl will head to Britain to have it done. In regards to the 19-year-old uncle, there have been no signs of him.
The girl and her family will be flying to Britain on Tuesday, July 1. So far, the trip has been financed by a Romanian living in the UK. The abortion laws in Britain have a 24-week statute.
According to Vlad Iliescu, official for Romania's health ministry, the girl would be mentally traumatized if she would to have this child. The girl said that she would be living a nightmare if she does not get that abortion.
In a nutshell, the girl will have the abortion in Britain.
If and when the uncle is found, it makes me wonder what his sentencing will be. This is somewhat coincidental as the United States Supreme Court had ruled it illegal to execute child rapists. Both presumed Democratic nominee Senator Barack Obama of Illinois and presumed GOP nominee Senator John McCain of Arizona have voiced criticism of the ruling.
If the crime had taken place in Louisiana, the girl's uncle would be placed in an interesting predicament.
