First pyramid in found in Europe-Great Find!

A mission to rescue workers from a coal mine, at Visoko, about 20 miles northwest of Sarajevo, has unearthed what could possibly be the first known pyramid in Europe.

Team leader Semir Osmanagic, a Bosnian archaeologist who studied the pyramids of Latin America for 15 years, believes that what has been uncovered is an ancient pyramid beneath a hill. The mines' tunnels are believed to be part of an network connecting three hills.

Archaeologists, geologists and other specialists have declared the tunnel to be man-made and have begun excavations. Osmanagic also believes that the 2,120-foot hill hides a step pyramid, which will be 722 feet high (a third taller than the Great Pyramid of Giza).

Huge stone blocks that appeared to have been cut and polished, a paved entrance plateau, entrances to tunnels were uncovered during the digs. Satellite pictures and thermal imaging have shown other smaller pyramid-like hills in the valley. Excavations will continue over the next six months with two experts from Egypt joining the team in May.
