Goa: Monsoon Magic

In Goa the monsoon season is becoming increasingly popular. The shacks close and beaches look desearted since the seas are too rough for swimming, but that adds to the charm.During the winter the beaches in North Goa are almost wall to wall with sunbathers. The beautiful hills and countryside lush green wit h the rains are not just incredibly soothing but also very romantic judging by the number of honeymooning couples around. What sets Goa apart during the rains is the smell of nature from the red earth, the trees and greenery to the pools and rivulets of water that are everywhere. The sea is rough but the boat cruises down the Mandovi river still operate. The fice star resorts and hotels are amazingly affordable during the rains. If you are in Goa during the monsoons there are enough traditional festivals like Sao Joao the festival of fertility when revellers jump into swollen rivers and even overflowing wells. In Siolim a canoe parade is organized on the river that culminates below the majestic  church of St Anthony.Festivals are a great way to get immersed in the local culture but there is no better way to enjoy Goa than to hire a car and drive down to south Goa passing through a lush countryside and finding some hidden gem of a restaurant where the food and atmosphere is the best you can find in India.
