Hindu family moved to court over relative’s burial

A Hindu family in Malaysia knocked the door of court when hospital in Penang refused to release dead body of their relative for cremation.

B Elangesvaran committed suicide by hanging himself on Sunday 22 June. The hospital refused to release the body saying that local Islamic department claimed that the deceased  converted to Islam and has to bury in Islamic way.

The family of deceased filed a case in Penang high court seeking a declaration that the deceased was Hindu and the body should be hand over to them for cremation..

After number of similar cases happened among the ethnic Indian and chinese in this Muslim led country, Premier Abdullah Badawai announced that non Muslim who want to convert in Islam would be required to inform their family before converting to Islam.
