J&K Academy of Art, Culture organizing National Art Festival at Chandighar

Jammu, October 22, (Vijay Kumar) –Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh will take part in ten day long National Art Festival at Chandighar . The festival is designed by Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages with the collaboration of North Zone Cultural Centre Chandighar. The Festival will be held at Kalagram ground and would remained open from 11 morning to 10 evening every day. This Festival is commencing from 24th of this month and the grand finally of this event will be held on 2nd of November .

Dr. Javaid Rahi, Senior official of Academy while giving details of the festival stated that more than 400 artists, film makers, craftsmen and intellectuals from all parts of the state, will take part in this median event. Sh. Omar Abdulah, Chief Minister, J&K will inaugurate this ten day the festival on 24th. The Union Ministers and other State and Central dignitaries are expected to grace the occasion, Dr. Rahi added.

Rahi said that prominent artists of Kashmiri, Dogri, Ladakhi, Punjabi, Gojri, Pahari , Balti and Shina will perform in this cultural extravaganza .

The Dr. Rahi further said that with a view to highlight Jammu & Kashmir in the national scene on art & cultural front, it is the theme state in this 1st National Kalagram Art Festival which will eventually become an annual feature.

Stalls of all crafts material of Kashmir including carpets, Namdas, curtain cloth, paper machie, wood carving, basketries, shawls, dresses , metal items, will be the part of this festival, said Rahi adding that the stalls of Ethnic food and spices will remained open for 24 hours during the festival.

Dr. Rahi further said that Chandigarh which is the capital of Punjab & Haryana and also the Headquarters of the Union Territory, has to witnessed a major boom in respect of different art forms and creative artistic endeavours and Kalagram has become a hub and focal point for the promotion of art & culture in the region.
