James "Whitey" Bulger Reward Raised to $2 Million
The FBI raised the reward for the capture of fugitive mobster James "Whitey" Bulger from $1 million to $2 million today, Bulger's 79th birthday.
Authorities released a new Most Wanted poster with the new bounty payment, pictures and descriptions of Bulger in five languages. The FBI will distribute the posters around Europe where they believe Bulger is hiding.
James "Whitey" Bulger is wanted for 21 counts of murder and racketeering. He was a member of Boston's Winter Hill Gang of organized mobsters. He has been on the run since being tipped off by an FBI insider in 1995. That man, John Connolly, is serving 10 years in prison for obstruction of justice and other related charges.
The FBI has set up a Web site with information about Bulger and photographs adjusted to show how he might have aged in the years since he was last seen.
