Judge Leonard Townsend Allows Kwame Kilpatrick to Attend Democratic Convention
Judge Leonard Townsend of the Wayne County Circuit Court in Detroit, has ruled that Mayor Kwame Kitpatrick can attend the Democratic National Convention, without his electronic tether.
Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick and former chief of staff Christine Beatty have been charged with multiple counts of conspiracy, perjury, misconduct in office, and obstruction of justice regarding a 2007 whistle-blower trial.
Other than Kilpatrick's Denver Convention trip, where he is a superdelegate, Judge Leonard Townsend is not allowing the mayor to travel out of Wayne County. Previously Kilpatrick was allowed to travel between Macomb, Oakland, and Wayne counties.
Judge Leonard Townsend expects to talk more about the decision in court this Friday.
