Kerala having Lowest Infant Mortality Rate of 14 per 1000 Live Births

As per the annual report of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare for the year 2007-08Kerala has recorded the lowest infant mortality rate of 14 per 1000 live births.

Madhya Pradesh has recorded the highest infant mortality rate of 76 per 1000. The national average is 58.

Infant mortality rate, one of the crucial indicators of the health standard of the country's population, is 40 per 1000 in urban areas and 64 in rural areas.
