McCain Needs To Attack Obama On Economy Tonight, Says Analyst

Tonight will be the third and final United States Presidential debate between GOP Presidential nominee Senator John McCain of Arizona and Democratic Presidential nominee Senator Barack Obama of Illinois. The debate will be taking place tonight at 9PM at Hofstra University in Hempstead, New York.

Perhaps this is McCain’s final chance to score several knockout blows on Obama. The first debate was “civil” and lukewarm at best.

The second debate which was at Nashville, Tennessee, was far more interesting. Still neither Obama nor McCain hit the other with a critical blow. But, they did give jabs to each other. However, there are many that felt Obama had won the debate.

Ironically, McCain should have won the debate. The second debate was in a town hall style format and many considered McCain to be the master of the town hall. In short, the second debate was supposed to be McCain’s barbeque.

According to CNN senior political analyst Gloria Borger, McCain needs to focus on the issues such as his economic plan. The day after the second debate, McCain did unveil his mortgage plan.

McCain’s mortgage plan was a complete about face from his original plan. Under the original plan, the lenders would take the hit. Under the new plan, taxpayers would be taking the burden.

That came under fire from Obama.

Tonight, McCain needs to shift the playing field. Many have said that McCain needs to focus on the issues instead of attacking Obama on his connection with William Ayers, the founder of the now defunct radical anti-war group known as the Weather Underground.

However, McCain has said it is probable that he will bring up William Ayers at tonight’s debate.

On Monday, CNN contributor and GOP strategist Ed Rollins said that while attacking the connection with Ayers is a legit tactic, not many voters really care about what had happened thirty or forty years ago; while today, many of those same voters are worried about losing their jobs and their homes.

In a nutshell, McCain needs to attack Obama on the economy.
