Melody Gardot to Release Major Label Debut
After Melody Gardot almost lost her life in a bicycle accident, her doctors recommended she turn to music as a form of therapy. She learned how to play guitar on her back while recovering in a hospital bed but, miraculously, four years after her accident, she is set to release her major-label debut album, "Worrisome Heart."
The maturity in Melody Gardot's jazzy voice and songwriting is even more exceptional when considering that the 23 year-old only started playing music two years ago. She still suffers from the effects of her accident: she walks with a cane, her senses of sight and hearing are increased forcing her to always wear sunglass and causing a constant ringing in her ears.
When Melody Gardot was 19, she was cycling in Philadelphia when she was hit by a car. Her injuries were severe; she had damaged her spine, broken numerous bones and had cognitive repercussions.
She has a silky voice that is confidently reclusive. Combine it with skilled songwriting and jazzy guitar chords and piano and Gardot might have a recipe for success. Her's is a style that has proved to be successful for artists like Norah Jones and Madeline Peyroux. "Worrisome Heart" is available now on Verve Records.
