Mexico's First Transgender Marriage
Mexico's people are gradually moving from traditional conservaticism to calculated liberalism, with the taking place last week of first ever wedding of couple both of whom had changed their sex before the marriage.
The couple, Mario Del Socorro and Dianna Guerrero, known as Maria and Jose respectively prior to the change of their sex, after exchanging vows in a ceremony attended by friends and relatives told the press that they belived the media coverage of their wedding would pressurize the Mexico's Congress to pass the proposed Law that would let people to get sex change operations carried out in public hospitals which would enable them to change their names in public records, without whichit is impossible to get hired.
Though only a beginning has been made in the direction of liberative measures , here is some proof of Mexico truning towards them. In 2006, gay civil unions were legalized in Mexico City and the Northern State of Coahuila. In 2007, early terminal abortion was legalized and a Law has been approved to allow terminally ill-patients to refuse treatment.
These reforms in customs and beliefs have been taking place despite strong stumbling blocks put by the Catholic Church.
