New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg announced Tuesday that West 53rd Street will temporarily be called “U2 Way” to celebrate the band’s week-long appearance on the “Late Show with David Letterman” and the release of its album “No Line on the Horizon.”
U2 Way covers a section of street near the Ed Sullivan Theatre, home to Letterman’s late night show, which is located on the intersection of West 53rd Street and Broadway. U2 is appearing on the show five times this week, the first time a band or artist has spent the entire week as a musical guest.

This is the second time the band has taken over late night television; it was the only guest on the Oct. 6, 2005, episode of “Late Night with Conan O’Brien.”
