Richard Henyard, Florida Murderer, to be Executed on Tuesday
Richard Henyard is scheduled to be the second person executed in Florida this year as his Tuesday, September 23 date comes ever closer. The state had an 18-month moratorium that began after the execution of Angel Diaz did not go to plan in December, 2006.
Richard Henyard was convicted of killing two youngsters aged 5 and 7 and raping and trying to kill their mother during a carjacking in 1993. Alfonza Smalls was also convicted in the crime but was sentenced to eight life sentences instead of execution because he was only 14 at the time of the killings.
Henyard has filed numerous appeals for a stay of execution, all of which were denied by the Florida Supreme Court. He has also used the Diaz botched lethal injection to say that the method is cruel and unusual. Nonetheless, Henyard is scheduled to face lethal injection on Tuesday.
Carol Lewis survived after being raped and shot numerous times by Henyard and Smalls but has not been reached for comment regarding Henyard's execution.
