October 10, 2008 SPARC reviews child labor situation in Chitral.
CHITRAL: Society of Protection of Rights of Children reviewed child labor situation in a meeting here at Child Right Committee (CRC) office Chitral. Engineer Temour Shah Coordinator Rural Community Development Program (RCDP) was presiding over the meeting. Said Afzal Shinwari SPARC Promotion Officer who was representing SPARC NWFP and members of Child Right Committee also attended the meeting. They under lined different issues regarding child labor, drop out of children and lack of civic facilities to children at Chitral. The members also expressed their concern over no labor inspector in Chitral. The local activists also demanded for proper training of them and positive participation in seminars. The local CRC coordinator complained lack of fund for provision of free medicines to juvenile prisoners and other material for them. The participants unanimously to call meeting quarterly and to preview all previous and current situation regarding child rights in the district. It was also announced that Birth registration campaign will be kick at Chitral in March and Global Education week would be celebrated in April 2008.
The participants also suggested for nominating poor children to be educate and compensate their parents by Pakistan Baitul Mall. It was also decided in the meeting to inspect and visit different government and private schools for eradicating corporal punishment, which has been banned in 1996. The participants demanded for establishment of Labor office and appointment of labor inspector to analyze working hours of labors at Chitral.
