Sandra Bernhard VIDEO (Graphic Language)
In Sandra Bernhard's current one-woman show, "Without You I'm Nothing" at Washington DC's Theater J, she is back to her antics of graphic, rude, politically incorrect comedy. This time she's fashioned her crosshairs on VP candidate Sarah Palin and, as you can see from the video below, she is taking no prisoners.
Although she received a glowing review in the Washington Post and other papers, Bernhard certainly rubs some spectators the wrong way when she warns that Sarah Palin will be "gang raped" if she ever goes to Manhattan. She takes Palin to task on her literal interpretation of the bible and, as a Jew, defends the old testament from Palin's conservative leanings.
The D.C. Jewish Community Center is hosting Bernhard's "Without You I'm Nothing" and has a 10-foot banner of the comedian advertising the show. Ari Roth of Theater J seems to have been picking up on some of Sandra Bernhard's vulger right-bashing: "We're proud of our producing - proud of Sandra's sense of timing - taking the fight out to the house and to the street beyond," Roth says, "channeling so much of our rage and frustration at the bizarre recent twists of fortune since Karl Rove trotted out Sarah Palin for John McCain to briefly meet and then get to bed with."
Sandra Bernhard's new show will cause controversy no matter how you slice it. Take a look at the following video and decide for yourself if it is art and comedy or something closer to hate speech.
