Adult Children Of Legislators Feed At Taxpayer Expense

I am shocked. Newsday http://www.newsday.com/son-of-key-ny-senate-coup-figure-gets-state-job-1.1362048 reports that Pedro G. Espada has received a job  working for the Senate Democrats but paid for by the taxpayers. He is  the son of Democrat State Senator Pedro J. Espada, Jr. (Democrat-Bronx), who has gone back and forth between the Republicans and the Democrats in the control of the New York State Senate.  The position of deputy director of intergovernmental affairs pays $120,000 out of the taxpayers pocket.  State Senator Espada is the new majority leader of the Democrats.  This is purely coincidental.

The article by James T. Madore notes that the Democrats are not alone in putting their family on the public payroll.  State Senator Owen Johnson (Republican-West Babylon) can enjoy seeing his son as a $49,998 a year research assistant.  Johnson is one of the most conservative Republican legislators.  So much for those who believe that Republicans and conservatives are any different than the rival gang.
