All the truth about vodka

Many know this strong spirit, which promises a successful party, yet, few know interesting facts about this interesting drink.

To start with - vodka has a dark history. It is considered that vodka is originally a Russian drink, but in the late 70s during the Cold War there was a big process about Poland claiming vodka to be their national drink. It is true, that vodka in Poland is mentioned back in 15th century, as is in Russia. It was a question of national pride, because, had Poland won the process, vodka in Russia would have become ordinary "table bread wine".

The investigation took 2 years and it was lead by William Pokhlebkin - famous Soviet historian. Pokhlebkin devoted a book to vodka - very famous "History of vodka". All in all, he officially proved that vodka appeared in 15th century and originally belonged to the Russian table. Later Pokhlebkin was mysteriously murdered in 2000. Whether this fact is connected to vodka or not, remains unreveiled.

The classic Russian vodka (also in the US) is 40%. We owe such percentage to Dmitri Mendeleev, the creator of periodic table of elements. He calculated that the perfect percentage should be 38 degrees, but back then, drink percentages were charged with taxes and this number was rounded up for easier tax calculation. In Europe vodka should not be higher than 37.5%.

The word "vodka" comes from Slavic word "water", though in other peoples languages, living near Slavic countries, vodka is often translated as "burning water".

Domain vodka.ru costed 50 000 $. "Russian standard vodka" who bought it, recently became the owner of vodka.com. This domain cost more than 3 million dollars.
