BJP alleges discrimination against Sikhs in J&K
Manhas said that the BJP’s concern for the Sikh community was genuine and not motivated by vote politics unlike other political parties. He said that the BJP has always worked against injustice in society and it will work with same zeal and enthusiasm to get justice for sikh community. He said that BJP is a party of discipline and principles and therefore it does not hesitate acting against those who violate the party discipline, whereas other parties are always ready to accomodate those members of the community who are implicated in scams and corruption, thus depriving fair deal to deserving members of society.
Manhas also announced that in near future the party will organize a grand Sikh Sammelan with senior national leaders as the main speakers and participants. He said that the Omar Abdullah government has proved to be a total failure and the BJP will not hesitate taking to streets if there is no proper attention given to the discrimination and refugee problems faced by the sikh community.
Dr. Jitendra Singh said that there is a lot in common between the BJP and the Sikh community and that this relationship is based on common ideals of patriotism, uprightness and self-respect which makes Sikh community a natural ally of Sikh community. He said that the coalition ruling parties have constantly exploited the Sikh community for votes but have failed to give it representation in the council of ministers.
Dr. Jitendra Singh said that a detailed documentation of West Pakistan Refugees has aleady been submitted to the Central leadership of BJP for perusal at the national level and in parliament. It is a unique situation that Jammu & Kashmir is the only State in the country which does not grant voting rights to West Pakistan Refugees settled here even as two of the Indian Prime Ministers, including Manmohan Singh, belong to this section of refugees.
BJP State Working Committee Member S. Amrik Singh (Adv.) said that Sikh community is solidly behind the BJP and its ideals. He said that in Jammu & Kashmir, BJP is the only party which can get justice for the community in view of oppressive and discriminatory policies of the NC-Congress led government. He said that BJP has certain qualities and virtues which no other party has.
S. Amrik Singh also informed that a core group of the community in coordination with Dr. Jitendra Singh will hold regular periodic meetings to plan future programmes including protest demonstrations.
Prominent among those who attended the meeting included Gurbachan Singh Dutta, Gurdev Singh, Hardev Singh, Kirpal Singh, Khazan Singh, Jodh Singh, Tarlok Singh, Joginder Singh, Ranjeet Singh, Kewal Singh, Dayal Singh, Surinder Singh, Ujjal Singh, Manjeet Singh, Prahlad Singh, Balbir Singh, Kulwant Singh, Amarjeet Singh, Simranjit Singh, Gurucharan Singh, Ujagar Singh, Rachpal Singh, Gurmeet Singh, Amarjeet Singh, Gurshesh Singh, Janak Singh, Harnam Singh and Pritam Singh.
