BJP demands action against Revenue officials in Defence land scam

Jammu, June 05(Scoop News) – A BJP deputation led by party’s National Secretary & former MP Dr. Kirit Samaiya and State President Shamsher Singh Manhas called on the Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand on Tuesday at Jammu and demanded immediate action against the state Revenue Officers involved in Defence land scam adjacent to Srinagar Airport. The deputation consisted of BJP National Executive Member & MLA Ashok Khajuria, National Executive Member & Chief Spokesperson Dr. Jitendra Singh, who is also the party’s State Convenor for Anti-Scam Committee and the committee members Chander Mohan Sharma, Satish Sharma, Sat Sharma (C.A), Balbir Ram and Rajinder Sharma.

In a meeting that took place in a cordial atmosphere, Kirit Somaiya explained to Dy. CM that while the Defence authorities had already initiated action against the officials convicted in the scam, the J&K state government was for reasons best known to it, dragging its feet on the issue. Somaiya also referred to his meeting with Union Defence Minister A.K. Antony following which the false NOCs issued by certain defence officials for the land adjoining Srinagar Airport had been referred for cancellation. Somaiya further explained that such a big scam could not have taken place without the connivence of certain officials in the revenue department of the state government for which it is the obligation of the government to take necessary action so that the process of undoing the wrongful sale of Defence land initiated by defence authorities could be brought to its logical conclusion. Somaiya also brought to the notice of Dy. Chief Minister the sensitivity of the matter particularly because the dubious sale purchase of land was taking place in the vicinity of highly sensitive airport of Srinagar.

Shamsher Singh Manhas informed the Dy. CM about the party’s concern regarding the Tawi lake scandal in which land encorachments by certain influencial persons in the government had been fecilitated by bifurcating river tawi in an unscientific manner which could lead to calamity at the time of floods etc. Manhas said that the party will from time to time furnish full details about various other scams also and it expected the coalition government to cooperate with BJP in its fight against corruption.

Ashok Khajuria expressed his concern about unauthorize encroachments taking place all along the river tawi bed. He said that the government had failed to act even though he had raised the matter in legislative assembly.

Dr. Jitendra Singh enemurated list of some of the prominent scams about which the BJP anti-scam committee is in the process of collecting evidence and documents. Some of these included NRHM, JKCA, MNREGA, Forest Land encorachment, Dal Lake cleansing and Village community land encroachment, he added.

The Deputy Chief Ministe gave a patient hearing to the deputation and assured necessary action in the matter. He also said that he would be happy to receive from the BJP’s anti-scam committee members whatever new evidence and information they have on the different cases of corruption and scams so that his office can also pursue them in right earnest.
