Bangladesh Total Land Phone Subscribers 1.2 mln as of Dec-07.

RanksTel, the largest private PSTN operator in the country with over one lakh subscribers.The officials of the private land phone operators said growth is increasing now. The subscription base of the private land phones reached around near 2 lakh in 2007.

In recent days, the private land phone companies have started growing to challenge the state-run Bangladesh Telegraph and Telephone Board (BTTB) that has over 10 lakh land phone customers across the country.

In the face of the growing competitions, the BTTB reduced phone connection fees twice in the last 18 months.

At present, 5 private companies offer land phone services across the country.

Bangladesh Total Mobilephone Subscribers 34.37 mln as of Dec-07

According to the BTRC http://www.btrc.gov.bd, the number of mobile phone subscriber increased by 58 percent to 34.37 million in December 2007 from 21.77 million a year earlier

Total number of mobile phone subscribers of Bangladesh's six network operators has reached 34.37 million at the end of December 2007.

That compares to 33.10 million at the end of November, according to the latest update from the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission.
