Enhance Gujjar’s quota in Universities, colleges of J&K



 


Jammu, March 20 (Scoop News) –    Voicing very strongly to  enhance  reserved  seats in all  Universities and professional colleges  of Jammu and Kashmir, the Gujjar Bakerwal- a major Scheduled Tribe Community today urged to provide  reservation to them in educational institutions proportionate to their population in the State  . They also demanded an adequate provision to grant quota to marginalized sect of society in admission and recruitments in  Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University Jammu and Islamic University of Science and Technology Kashmir.


 


In a programme organized here by Tribal Research and Cultural Foundation- a frontal organization of Gujjars to discuss various aspects of “Quota for STs viz a viz Gujjars of J&K ”  the speakers exhorted for establishment of a guidance cell in State Advisory Board for Development of Gujjar and Bakerwal in civil secretariat  to guide Community youths in getting admissions, jobs under ST category in all over India in general and in State in particular.


Dr. Javaid Rahi, Secretary Tribal Foundation in his address said there is an urgent need to implement, monitor and evaluate continuously the reservation policy in universities and colleges and plan measures for ensuring effective implementation of the policies and programmes of the Government meant to uplift tribal population.He urged that Government should launch a  programme to collect data regarding the implementation of the policies in respect of admissions, appointments to teaching and non-teaching positions in the universities, and in the affiliating colleges .


He further told  presently, he said, there is a 6% reservation for Gujjars/Bakerwals in admission in Government professional colleges of J&K ,  5% in Jammu University and 3% in Kashmir University as against 10%  approved quota at State level under ST category which  is not proportionate to the population as well which constitute 20% of total population  of state and added we are demanding immediate enhancement in quota at all levels in J&K Universities and Colleges  to safeguard the constitutional guaranties to tribes.


Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University  and  Islamic University of Science and Technology so for have no provision for quota/reservation  to be provided to Suppressed and marginalized groups like SC/STs, he said and urged the authorities to fix percentage of  reservation for oppressed classes in both Universities too.  


He said, the community member will shortly meet with Governor  N N Vohara Chancellor of SMVDU and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah Chancellor  Islamic University of Science and Technology with a plea to provide benefits of reservation in both Universities.   


Other Who spoke includes Dil Nawaz Chodhary, Naveed Khatana, Amir Ali Chechi, M S Arif, Kher-ud Din Chowdhary , Noushad Chowdhary.
