Environmental Group Launch “Earth Hour” Around the World

Cities around the world participated in the first launching of “Earth Hour” a worldwide campaign that highlight the issue of global warming. Four cities in Metro Manila and other cities in the country joined communities around the world in an hour of activity where they switched off all electric power at 8:00 pm (local time) last night.

All places were covered in darkness after edifices, streetlights and residential homes obliged to turn their lights off in deference to the worldwide call on global warming awareness.

Earth Hour was first introduced in Sydney Australia a year ago by its founder Andy Ridley and his environmental group WWF. The group was convinced that launching Earth Hour would make a difference to at least minimize greenhouse emissions. The 60 minute lull in energy use also convinced the WWF that the world is united in combatting global warming.

The first Earth Hour activity was a success and no less than the participating countries, like the Philippines, Thailand, Europe, US, New Zealand, Europe, Israel and of course Australia, appreciated the launching of this worldwide global warming awareness program by the WWF. From Australia, Earth Hour is now part of the world’s activity to bring awareness about the threat of global warming.
