Every Kashmiri had a responsibility to preserve the beauty of Kashmir : Vidhu Chopra

Distressed by the increasing pollution of polythene in Kashmir valley, well known Bollywood film Director Vidhu Vinod Chopra on Sunday in Srinagar said that every citizen of Kashmir had a responsibility to preserve the beauty of Kashmir against the hazard of polythene pollution.

While addressing his first Press conference in Kashmir on Sunday at in Grand Palace in Srinagar, the famous bollywood film director of Kashmiri origin, said,”I see hope in the youth of Kashmir as few days ago I came across a news item reading about the polythene campaign started by a group of youth. I felt happy that Kashmiri youth has started taking initiatives against the issues like polythene pollution.

The press confrence was organized by Green Dream, a Non Governmental Organization which has of late started a campaign against polythene pollution.

Chopra said that anytime he would be ready to visit Kashmir to talk to people in any corner of the valley regarding polythene pollution. “Luckily I met this group of youth in a café shop and as a Kashmiri I felt that I should help them in some way. If Green Dream will need me at any point of time, I am ready to cancel all my engagements for the sake of this cause,” he said.

Hailing the step taken by the Green Dream Organization, he said that the youth of this place needed a change and wanted to keep this place safe and pollution free. “Where ever I went in the past six days I saw heaps of polythene in every nook and corner of city. Even the places like Dachigam and Pari Mahal are polluted with polythene bags. Place like Kashmir should not be spoiled by the use of polythene,” he lamented.

Chopra said that the present youth of Kashmir had no idea about pre-1990 era of Kashmir which was entirely peaceful and harmonious. “We should not blame on each other. Allah has given us eyes to look ahead not to look back, so we must know our responsibilities toward this place which was known as a paradise on earth,” he said.

Stating his reasons of being in Kashmir, Chopra said that every year he spends a week in Kashmir along with his family. “I have a childhood connection with this place; I have done my schooling and college here. I do not want this connection to break and that is the only reason I prefer to come here leaving options like Switzerland,” he said.
