Fuel Prices go up in Ghana

New Fuel prices have been anounced in Ghana. There is an increase of 30 percent on all petroleum products starting from Friday June 5. This is in response to rising prices in the world market.

This has sparked criticism for the government because they promised to reduce fuel prices when voted into power. So far, this is the second time they have increased prices.

Ghana's economy is vulnerable to fuel prices as prices of essential commodities such as food go up whem fuel prices go up. The first effect of this is an increase in transport faces.

A pressure group - Committee for Joint Action who have demonstrated against the past government over fuel price increases is demanding that government reduces the prices immediately in order to avert the hardsship that citizens will have to go through.

The test of the CJA is that most of its patrons are supporters of the government, with some of them now officials in the government. We are not sure if the supporters of the NDC will join if any protest march is called.

However, supporters of the opposition NPP would be glad to see such demonstrations.
