MP slap colleague in Parliament


 


A Member of Parliament has slapped his own colleague from the same party. The unfortunate incident happened on Thursday,26 July, at the Parliament House of Ghana.


 


The two MPs belong to the major opposition party in Ghana, the National Democratic Congress NDC.The young MP who is known as Tanko Ibrahim Rauf, from Yagaba/Kubori Constituency, in the Northern part of Ghana gave a thudding slap to his colleague Sampson Ahi, an MP for Juaboso Constituency.


 


The shameful act has shocked all the MPs from both sides and the entire country.Tanko slapped Ahi at the main House at the time proceedings were about to start, when they were waiting for the arrival of the Speaker of Parliament.


 


For the intervention of his colleagues it would have turned into a scuffle.


 


The minority has condemned the act and Rauf, in a signed statement said “I wish to unreservedly apologize to my colleague friend, Hon. Sampson Ahi for the unfortunate act of indiscretion on my part towards him this morning. I particularly apologize to his constituents, the hardworking citizens of Juaboso constituency,"


 


The statement further read “I further apologize to my colleague Hon. Members of Parliament, Parliament as an institution, my party and the nation as a whole....I sincerely regret it”.


 


The National Executive Council NEC, of the National Democratic Congress has sectioned Rauf for two weeks to serve as a deterrent to all their members.
