ISOC Nepal Planning to hold Pre discussion for IGF



The Internet Society Chapter Nepal (ISOC Nepal) in association of the High Level Commission for Information Technology (HLCIT) Singha Durbar is organizing an open discussion targeting Internet Governance Forum (IGF), one of the upcoming events for information technology involving different stake holders at HLCIT Singha Durbar complex on November 27, 2008. The Internet Governance Forum (IGF) is a discussion space for multi-stakeholder and offer unique opportunity for bottom-up policy development related to the Internet by linking together Government, Private Sector,NGO/INGOs, civil society, technical and academic community. This year the IGF is schedule o be held at Hyderabad, India from 3-6 December 2008. There are five main subjects of the IGF Access, Openness, Diversity, Security and critical Internet resources for the management and Development of internet. The proposed Agendas for the discussion are as follows : Access : 1) Internet accessibility for people with disabilities 2) Internationalized domain names : Myths & opportunities 3) Internet for all - exploring right based approach 4) promoting pro-poor access to ICTs Diversity : 5) Access to local culture & language 6) Four sisters for developing countries - Information security, spam , e-Governance & Data Protection Openness : 7) Emerging cyber law issues 8) Freedom of Expression in cyberspace in internet filtering & censorship 9) Steps towards an Internet that is multilingual , yet remains global Security : 10) an Interpol for the internet 11) child safety online measure to protect children from exploitation - the challenge of keeping pace with technological development 12) Medicines on the web - risks & benefits Critical Internet Resources : 13) IPV6 : The solution for the future Internet Development & Capacity Building : 14) Can Internet Governance change global futures ) or will global futures change internet governance ? using the scenario to map the relationship between Internet Governance & other Global characters 15) Internet & climate change 16) The role of Internet Exchange points in creating internet capacity & bridging autonomy to developing nations Others : 17) Youth & Internet Governance : challenges for the future 18) The trans-boundary internet : jurisdiction control & sovereignty 19) National multi-stakeholder process and the relation to the IGF 20) enhancing international co-operation again cyber crime 21) the human rights dimension of Internet
