Powerup and charge your devices without any cords...
An Israeli startup called Powermat are developing a new technology of wireless electricity.
Their mission is to have a surface like a wall, a table or even a shelf that will provide power on demand to your gizmo's as well as charging it.
Imagine the office meeting room, when the table there provide power to all the laptops in the room as well as charging mobile phones, blackberries, MP3 devices and more.
The current products is the "Mat-and-Puck" - The thinly layered mat is overlaid on a work surface. The Puck is a pocket-size, free-standing, universal receiver. It is designed to be compatible with a wide variety of devices.
When a device with attached Puck is placed on the Mat, a handshake between the Puck and Mat is being done and electric power is generated in the Puck, powering the device.
Powermat plans to go much further then the Mat-and-Puck approach and add the same technology which is inside the Mat into any flat surface (e.g. into a wall) and they believe that in the future, other companies will implement the Mat technology into their own devices just as they did with WiFi and the surface will communicate directly with the device.
As an example, you will be able to hang an LCD tv wherever you want without need to be close to a socket.
The Mat-and-Puck will be available this year on retail stores.
