Increasing Child Labours

More than 300 million children in the age group of 3- 16 are exploited as Child Labour through out the globe, a survey done by UNICEF says. These children work in factories, sex workers, agricultural works, assisting parents in there work or business, or doing various peculiar jobs. Few children work as guides for tourists coming from Western Countries. Some children are forced to do monotonous and recurring jobs such as - collecting boxes, shoe polish and cleaning. There are thousands of child labours in Metro cities of India, Bangladesh and Pakistan. If not any work there parents make them beg on Red lights or Market places.

Wasim who doesn’t even knows his age, works for his father Rahim Khan in a small cycle repair shop in Mahipalpur, Delhi. He starts working at 7 am in the morning till the shop closes at 9 pm or onwards. He never went to school, neither he is willing to. He is an expert in wheel alignments and fixing punctures on this busy Indian capital road. His parents say,” what is the use of studying when he has already started earning at this stage, after all completing school he would have looked for a job”. Than, why not now?

Wasim is not the only child caged by his parent in the Capital. There are thousands who can be seen doing numerous jobs in streets of the city. The question is Delhi has so many NGOs who claim to work for the rights of underprivileged children or Child Labour still the number of Child Labours are increasing everyday instead of reducing. WHY?
