Is America still a Superpower?
The economy is sinking, the war in Iraq is still very much an issue and Wall Street needs a huge bail out. I find it troubling that the United States is quickly becoming a have not nation. They have racked up a tremendous amount of debt currently about $10 trillion. They are projecting a budget deficit of about $1 trillion for 2008 and there is no end in site regarding their weakening economy.
America no longer has the moral authority or respect around the world that is used to have. The Iraq occupation has not been a success thus far and continues to be a thorne in the side of the Bush administration. The United States would not be able to respond to a global conflict if one arose due to their weakened position around the world. Their military is spread to thin and there economy cannot support much more spending.
This concerns me a great deal since the world is still very much a dangerous place. I hope Barrack Obama can bring this country back from the brink of disaster. I fear the United States is becoming a crumbling empire and wonder who will take America's place as the next superpower. I hope America can pull through their problems and lead the world towards economic stability and peace. The next few years will be critical, let’s all hope and pray or the best.
