J&K Dragon Boating team wins 2 Gold medals in Mumbai

Mumbai/Srinagar, February 02 (Scoop News) –Jammu and Kashmir Dragon boating and Sea kayaking team returned back to J&K with Two gold, four silver and two bronze medals.

The team won the medals in the National Dragon boating and Sea Kayaking Championship held at H2o Water Sports Centre Mumbai from 27 to 29 January. J&K dragon boating men team won two gold medals in 500 meter and 200 meter race.

While women team bagged two silver medals In 500 meter and 200 meter race. Sea kayaking players of J&K won two silver and two bronze medals in 5 KM event. After winning eight medals, J&K team clinched the overall Championship trophy. The National Championship was organised by Indian Kayaking and Canoeing Association.

Meanwhile, Ishfaq Ahmad of Srinagar was selected as a player in the Indian Dragon Boating team while Umar Rafiq of Srinagar has been nominated as Chief Coach of the Indian team to represent the country in the Asian Dragon Boating Championship which is scheduled to be held in Thailand from February 7. A special coaching camp has been organised by Indian Kayaking and Canoeing Association for the Indian Dragon Boating team at H2o water Sports centre Mumbai where Chief Coach Umar Rafiq is imparting training to the players.
