JK Governor paid obeisance at the Diskit Monastery & prays for peace, prosperity in J&K



 


Leh-Ladakh (J&K)), September 12, (Vijay Kumar) –The Governor,  N. N. Vohra, paid obeisance at the Diskit Monastery in Nubra Valley and prayed for communal harmony, brotherhood, peace, progress and prosperity in the J&K State.


The Governor was accorded a warm welcome by the Head Lama of the Diskit Monastery,  Lobzan Stenzin, other Lamas and students of the Monastery, Executive Councillor, Health, Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, Leh,  Tsering Angchuk and Councillor, Hunder Constituency,  Tsering Tondop, in a traditional manner by presenting Khataks to him. 


The Governor was briefed by the Head Lama about the history of the establishment of this Monastery. He was informed that the under-construction statue of sitting Lord Buddha, on the high ground near the Monastery, is scheduled to be completed by July 2010 and is envisaged to be inaugurated by His Holiness the Dalai Lama.


A deputation of people of Diskit also met the Governor and submitted a memorandum, highlighting their demands, which, interalia, include the need for construction of a tunnel at Khardung-la, setting up of a degree college at Diskit, augmenting power supply and increasing the airlift quota of civilians, through Army, from Thoise to Chandigarh. The Governor gave a patient hearing to the deputation.


The First Lady, s. Usha Vohra, the Principal Secretary to the Governor,  Raj Kumar Goyal and Brigade Commander, Brig. Avinash Singh accompanied the Governor.


 


Ealier The Governor was received by the MLC,  Narboo Gyalson, Executive Councillors of Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC), Leh,  Mohammad Khan,  Dorjay Stanzin and  Phunchok Stanzin, Councillors, former Legislator and ex-MP,  P. Namgyal, Deputy Commissioner, Leh,  A. K. Sahu, SSP Leh,  B. S. Tuti and other Civil, Police and Army officers. He was given a warm and traditional welcome by presenting Khataks to him.


            From Partappur, the Governor was accompanied by the Northern Army Commander, Lt. Gen. P. C. Bhardwaj, Corps Commander, 14 Corps, Lt. Gen. S. K. Singh and Principal Secretary to the Governor,  Raj Kumar Goyal.


            On arrival at the Circuit House, the Governor was briefed by the Executive Councillors of the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council and the Deputy Commissioner about the pace of progress on the execution of various development works and welfare schemes. He particularly enquired about the health and education sectors and emphasized the need for filling up the vacancies in these departments to provide the best possible healthcare services to the people and quality education to the children.
