Jammu Kashmir lifts Silver Rolling Trophy
Jammu, November 07(Scoop News) – The team comprising Ms. Polina Singh of the Government College for Women, Gandhinagar, Jammu, and Abhinandan Singh of the Government College of Engineering and Technology, Jammu, won the Silver Rolling Trophy, instituted by N. N. Vohra, Governor Jammu and Kashmir, at the 3rd Annual Inter-State (Northern Zone) Declamation Contest, which was organized by the Department of Higher Education at the Government College for Women, Gandhinagar, here last evening.
The Runner-Up Trophy was bagged by the team comprising Junaid Yasin of the
N. N. Vohra, Governor, was the Chief Guest, while Mrs. Usha Vohra, First Lady, was the Guest of Honour on the occasion. Abdul Gani Malik, Minister for Higher Education, presided over the Valedictory Session of the Declamation Contest.
The Governor, speaking on the occasion, observed that the students have to play an important role in the maintenance of societal harmony in our country. He said that there is need for providing greater opportunities to the youth so that they are adequately groomed to successfully shoulder their future responsibilities of nation building.
Referring to the Annual Inter-State (Northern Zone) Declamation Contest for the Silver Rolling Trophy, the Governor observed that the idea behind instituting the trophy was to provide an opportunity to the students of each of the three regions of the State to compete against students from the Northern Zone States, to debate their views on topics which are relevant for the rapid socio-economic development, particularly in the context of the J&K State. He expressed satisfaction that this Declamation Contest had settled down well and, in this context, lauded the efforts put in by the Higher Education Department, the Government College for Women, Gandhinagar, Jammu and the students as well as all those associated in making arrangements for this important annual event.
The Governor referred to the schedule of examinations in the summer and winter zones of the State and observed that possibilities would have to be explored for organizing a similar contest in Srinagar in the summer months when there is not much of academic pressure on the students and a good number of them from colleges in Kashmir and Ladakh regions would be able to participate in the contest.
Abdul Gani Malik, Minister for Higher Education, expressed his gratitude to the Governor for instituting the Silver Rolling Trophy. He said that this contest, conceptualized by the Governor, had emerged as an important and popular event among the students, adding that a good number of participants from the various Northern Zone States had participated and expressed their views on relevant topics.
Later, the Governor presented the Silver Rolling Trophy to the winning team and also gave away a Trophy to the runner-up team. He gave away a cash prize of Rs. 11,000 to Ghulam Mustafa of the

The Governor and the First Lady were honoured on the occasion by presenting mementos to them.
