Man in Grottoes, Virginia Found On Highway

Christopher McCarthy, who was forty-nine years old, was found unconscious on South Eastside Highway, at 3:20 in the morning, on August 2, 2008.  He died later that morning.

According to Sergeant Felicia Glick, who is the spokeswoman for Rockingham County's Sheriff's Office, " We really have no idea what's happened to him".

McCarthy was found near his mother's home.  According to Glick, there was "extensive bruising" on his body.

His stepson, Brad Shifflett, says McCarthy had a cracked spine, collapsed lungs, internal bleeding, brain swelling, and broken ribs.  He also say that he suspects foul play because there was no indication that McCarthy had been hit by a car.
