NSO undertakes April 2009 Labor Force Survey
Tacloban City, Philippines – The National Statistics Office (NSO) Leyte Provincial Office is set to conduct the April 2009 Labor Force Survey in the 80 sampled barangays with 1,219 sampled households in Leyte.
The Labor Force Survey will start on April 13 with the enumerators visiting the sampled households in the identified sample barangays in the province of Leyte.
Provincial Statistics Officer Wilma A. Perante said that the Labor Force Survey is a nationwide survey of households conducted regularly to gather data on the demographic and socio-economic characteristics of the population.
Perante called on the concerned public to cooperate with the enumerators of NSO who will be visiting them starting on April 13.
She assured the respondents that the data to be gathered will be held strictly confidential and will not be used for purposes of taxation, investigation and enforcement procedure.
She also gave the assurance that the data gathered will not be published except in the form of statistical summaries in which no reference to any person shall appear.
The Labor Force Survey is a nationwide survey of households undertaken every quarter, designed to provide statistics on levels and trends of employment, unemployment, and underemployment for the country, as a whole, and for each of the country’s administrative regions.
The results of the first quarter of 2009 Labor Force Survey showed a 7.7 percent unemployment rate in the Philippines, slightly higher than the 7.4 percent result in the first quarter Labor Force Survey in 2008.
More males (64.1% of total unemployed) were unemployed than among females (35.9%). By age group, for every 10 unemployed persons, five (49.2%) were in the age group 15 - 24 years while three (30.3%) were in the age group 25 - 34.
Across educational groups, the unemployed were comprised mostly of high school graduates (32.7%), college undergraduates at about one-fifth (22.2%), while the college graduates, 18.3 percent.
