Natural Remedies for Curing Acne

The term “Acne” refers to an inflammatory condition of the sebaceous glands and hair follicles of the skin that are found on the face, chest, the neck and shoulders. It is a more common problem among teenagers. Nearly 80% of the youth between the age group of 13 to 25 suffer from acne. Acne are a result of changes in the hormonal balance of both boys and girls at the age of puberty. Acne are also formed due to disturbance in the digestive system and constipation.

Major symptoms of acne are the presence of blackheads or comedones, pimples, scars and cysts. Among the various forms of acne the most common form are blackheads. They are mainly found on the forehead, cheeks, chin and the temples. Entire body may also get covered with blackheads and scarring in rare cases.

The main causes of acne are wrong eating habits, excessive intake of sugar and starches and fatty foods. Irregular bowel movement is also another major cause of acne. If the accumulated waste matter is not properly excreted from the body, the blood gets surcharged with harmful toxins and wastes. This exerts a pressure on the skin in getting rid of these wastes, which in turn results in acne and other types of skin problems. Excessive use of tea, coffee, tobacco, alcohol, sedentary living habits and masturbation also cause acne. Acne may also be the result of unhygienic living conditions.

Nature Cure for Acne: Treating acne by the external application of ointment or salves does not offer permanent cure. They just suppress the disease temporarily. Nature cure emphasizes a proper diet and certain water applications for curing acne.

Firstly the patient should be administered a full diet containing fruits for about 5-6 days. There should be at least three meals of fruits at regular intervals containing fruits such as apples, grapes, pineapples, peaches and pears. Bananas, citrus fruits and tinned fruits should be avoided. Nothing else other than plain water should be used for drinking. Warm water enema should be taken daily during this period to cleanse the bowels, and all other steps should be taken to prevent constipation.

After completing this treatment the patient can gradually start taking a balanced diet. More emphasis should be placed on the intake of fresh fruits, raw nuts, sprouted seeds, vegetables and whole grain cereals.

Proper emphasis should be placed on the diet for quick recovery. Fatty foods, starchy and protein foods should be restricted. Tea, coffee, sugar, pickles, meat, flesh, condiments, tinned and processed foods, cold drinks, ice-cream, chocolates and products made with white flour and sugar should be avoided as they aggravate the condition.

Vitamin A and Niacin are the two important vitamins that have been used successfully for the treatment of acne. This treatment is also known as vitamin therapy. It may comprise vitamin A in large doses upto 145000 units per day and Niacin upto 100 mg three times, daily should be given for a maximum upto one month. Vitamin E is also equally important for removing old scars and preventing scarring due to acne. Zinc remedy has also proved to be effective in many cases. Therapeutic doses of 50 mg of zinc, three times a day offers better results in the condition. These doses can be reduced after remarkable improvement.

Various local treatments have also proved to be helpful for treating acne. A pinch of turmeric powder mixed with one teaspoon of coriander juice is a useful home remedy for pimples and blackheads. This mixture should be applied to the face after washing it properly every night before going to bed.

Orange peel is also equally useful for treating acne. This peel should be grinded and finely powdered. It should than be mixed with water to form a paste and applied to the affected area. Lemon juice can also be applied regularly to remove acne.

Hot fomentation should be applied to open up the skin pores and squeeze out the waste matter. Then rinse with cold water. Air and sun baths are also highly beneficial. They are performed by exposing the whole body to air and sun. Treating acne with packs made up of oatmeal and cooked in milk, grated cucumber and cooked creamed carrots, when used externally have also found to be useful.

Skin blemishes and scars, formed as a result of acne can be removed by applying juice of raw potatoes on the affected area. Potato juice contains high amount of potassium, phosphorous, sulfur and chlorine. But all these elements are useful only when the potato is raw and not boiled.

A hot Epsom bath containing one and a half kg of Epsom salt, mixed in 45-50 litres of water with a temperature of 99-100 degrees Fahrenheit administered twice a week is also very helpful in the treatment of acne. The patient should remain in the bath for 30 to 35 minutes till he freely perspires. After taking the bath the patient should cool off slowly.

Thus we can say that acne is a chronic disease of the skin which can be treated and cured permanently by strictly adhering to a proper diet, a well balanced lifestyle and proper use of natural remedies. This not only gives a relief from acne but cures it completely.
