Natural Remedies for Curing Emphysema

Emphysema is one of the most serious diseases of the lungs. The lungs contain tiny air sacs known as alveoli and bronchioles, the narrow passages leading to the air sacs which become permanently distended with air under this condition. The number of blood vessels gets reduced and the tissues loose their elasticity. This disease is chronic in nature and more common in men after the age of forty five.

The main symptom of emphysema is breathlessness followed by coughing. With the lapse of time it gets worse and eventually a stage comes when the patient is breathless at rest as the alveoli become so damaged that the exchange of gases between the air and the blood is much impaired.

Due to breathlessness the patient feels difficulty in chewing and swallowing. Also due to the expansion of lungs there may be discomfort after meals as the expanded lungs push the diaphragm into the stomach. Other symptoms include weight loss and loss of appetite.

Emphysema is mostly found in patients suffering from chronic bronchitis and asthma. The main factors which contribute to this disease are infection and obstruction of the air passages. Due to this the elastic tissues of lungs get weakened. Other causes of emphysema are rising levels of air pollution and continuous exposure to dust. Smoking is also an important contributory factor.

Nature Cure for Emphysema: The treatment of emphysema should first commence by an observance of fast by the patient on vegetable and fruit juice for four to six days. A warm water enema should be used daily to cleanse the bowels during this period. The patient should thereafter switch to an exclusive diet of fresh juicy fruits such as orange, apple, peach, pineapple, papaya and pear for further four days or so.

After this the patient can gradually adopt a well balanced diet consisting of nuts, grains, seeds, vegetables and fruits. A glass of buttermilk can also be included during meals. More emphasis should be placed on raw vegetables and fresh fruits as well as vegetable and fruit juices.

Certain home remedies have also been found effective in the treatment of emphysema. One such remedy is the use of garlic. Two to three cloves of garlic should be chewed daily and a small amount of garlic juice can also be added to vegetable juices.

The use of lemon or lime is another useful remedy for emphysema. One teaspoon of fresh juice of either of the two fruits should be taken several times a day before or between meals.

Due to its expectorant properties aniseed (saunf) has also been found beneficial in the treatment of emphysema. For to nine drops of aniseed oil should be mixed with a teaspoon of brown sugar.

Amaranth has also been found effective in the treatment of this disease. Fresh juice should be extracted from this green leafy vegetable. This juice should be mixed with honey and taken liberally by the patient.

Above all the patient should live in a least polluted and smoke free environment.

Other diseases associated with emphysema such as asthma and chronic bronchitis should be kept under control through natural treatments. If the patient has a habit of smoking it should be given off completely. Taking frequent small meals consisting of high energy foods also helps in overcoming weight loss.

Proper exercises should also be undertaken by the patients which help to maintain the muscle tone and prevents them from becoming rigid. Walking is the best exercise and the patient should walk at least 2-3 Kms twice daily. Deep breathing exercises in fresh air also help a lot.

Thus we can conclude that emphysema can be effectively treated and cured by the application of various natural and home remedies.
