Phantom Sailors on Leave

Located in the North End, Lewis Wharf is the home of the Boston Sailing Center and an almost hidden garden of lush flowers and herbs, a beautiful oasis in the bustling city. The Boston Harbor-walk passes by this somewhat “Secret garden” with a soothing fountain, making for a relaxing stop on your walking tour.

Lewis Wharf has many historical commercial and non commercial buildings. There is an historical exhibit where you can check out the numerous historical photographs and artifacts collected from the area.

While on the Harbor-walk, you will pass by the Pilot House, built in 1839 as a rooming house for pilots and captains of the ships spending the night in the Boston Harbor. The Pilot House has a restaurant on the first floor, where poltergeist activity has been experienced for years. A woman in white haunts the kitchen on the first floor, where doors slam shut by themselves. The murmurs of men talking and drinking, and glasses breaking as if thrown against a wall, are heard on the upper floors. There are sounds of people coming and going in and out of the house, along with phantom laughing and noises on the stairs-when no-ones around. It would appear as if some of the present day Pilot House occupants are not ready to head out to sea.

There have been apparitions of sailors and seamen at Lewis Wharf; when it is dark and misty, you might feel the presence of others, and see small rounded orbs floating above the water. Beware… of ghosts
