TMC general secretary Partha Chatterjee filed his nomination from West Behala assembly constituency.He Was elected MLA in 2001 and 2006. He is the most important leader of TMC after its supremo Mamata Banarjee. He will sure to get a key ministry.
In 2006, TMC, which bagged 29 seats in the 294-member House, qualified for the status of main Opposition party for a short period by increasing its tally to 30 with Arjun Singh’s victory in the Bhatpara of N.24 pgs by-election. But its tally slipped back to 29 when Bongaon MLA Bhupen Seth died after a heart attack. Behala West MLA Partha Chatterjee was chosen as leader of the TMC legislature party.
