Poker Champ Ryan Young dies
Poker pro, Ryan Young died on Monday 30th July following a car accident. The Torrance, California native was only 28 years old when he tragically passed away.
Young made a name for himself in the world of poker back in 2007, following his victory at the World Series of Poker where he received a bracelet for his win in the $1,500 No Limit Hold‘em event. He also won a Legends of Poker side event and finished as runner up in the Wynn Classic Main Event as his success continued into the following year.
Earlier this year Young rang true to his hard earned reputation. After going deep into the 2012 World Series of Poker tournament he finished in a respectable 350th place. He amassed an impressive total of $1.6 million in live tournament earnings over his brief six year career. Despite have a great deal of success on the live setting Young never reported any involvement with online poker sites, such as PokerStars.
The news of his death hit the poker world hard, with fans and fellow players taking to social media pages to leave an outpouring of tributes and condolence messages.
Chris Moore, who defeated Young at the Wynn Classic 2008 event Tweeted, “Very saddened to hear of the passing of poker player Ryan Young. Always thought of him as a great player, and an even better guy.”
Player David Benefield posted on Young’s Facebook page, “This is such a shock. You were a great friend, an awesome person and a damn good poker player. I have known you for as long as I have known almost anyone in the poker world and I will miss you dearly.”
On August 4th Daniel Negreanu published a short message from Lois Young, Ryan’s mother, on CardPlayer.com. She said “Ryan Young, family and I would like to thank all the kind words and gestures that were posted on Facebook, Twitter and the poker media. It has meant so much to our family to hear that he was so respected and loved by so many. We are confident that Ryan is in a better place now. He is continuing to infect people with his one of a kind smile and his positive attitude, just as he did in this world. Thanks again for your compassion, support and kindness. Sincerely Lois, Ryan’s mom, Robbie and Randall, Ryan’s brothers.”
