Police in Action against transporters

Crack down of Chitral police and administration against transporters for overcharging fare between Dir Chitral.

CHITRAL: Chitral police and district administration on the direction of Deputy Commissioner Chitral Rahmatullah Wazir and District police officer Abdul Rashid cracked down against transporters who charging over payment as fare between Dir and Chitral. Police party under supervision of Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Aamaluddin of police station Drosh and sub inspector Abdul Hafeez of Traffic police blockade main road at Drosh, stopping all coming vehicles from Dir side asking from passengers about the fare charged by transporters. On complaints of passengers Police took stern action against those who had over charged from passengers from Dir to Chitral and they took back and returned the fare to passengers. As officially fare from Dir to Chitral has been fixed rupees 500 but transporters charging 600 to 1500 from each passengers. Police told that they returned 30000 rupees to passengers which were overcharged by transporters from these passengers. Social and political circle of Chitral have highly hailed this step by district administration and Chitral, Drosh police against transporters who busy in looting poor Chitrali passengers. They demanded for bounding transporters at Dir bus stand by Dir administration for charging only approved fare from Dir to Chitral.
Meanwhile a number of transporters complained of poor condition of road near Lawari tunnel. They said that due to dilapidated condition of the road having big ditches in its middle causing for great problems for vehicles as well as for passengers they cannot travel easily . A drivers told this scribe that last year the access road to Lawari tunnel was leveled and clear by 101 Engineering Battalion of Pakistan Army under supervision of Lt Col Usman but this year road position is very poor and passengers facing to travel by feet coming down from vehicles because it is not possible to cross a loaded vehicle this road damaged by flood and rain water.
