Price Hike and Electricity Load Shedding Might Lead Pakistan Towards Rebellion

Price hike despite of lowering down of oil prices in international market is quite a strange phenomenon in Pakistan. In USA and elsewhere in the world prices of essential commodities including luxury goods has been down now with decrease in oil prices. PPPP lead coalition government though have succeeded to meet the challenge of extremism but  its failure to control price hike and WAPDA’s electricity thefts and load shedding might cause a rebellion like situation in Pakistan. In Peshawar and in many areas of Punjab people came out on streets to protest against WAPDA load shedding.

Both price hike and load shedding of electricity has been causing adverse impacts on economy of Pakistan, because of low wages and salaries high prices will ultimately diminish purchasing power of the people. Electricity load shedding has adverse impacts on industrial units, has been causing unemployment in Pakistan. Print media reports reflect that in Peshawar capital of NWFP sale in the shops has been nominal and industrialists are down sizing their employees.

President Asif Ali Zardari though had stressed the need for end of WAPDA load shedding does not seem to be aware of adverse impacts of price hike, from flour to sugar prices in Kohat district of NWFP showing upward trends. Timely steps to control price hike and load shedding can save PPPP lead coalition from confronting rebellion like situation within the country but can also pave the way for its future electoral victories.
