Shed Light On Long Island Lighthouse

Computer Associates founder Charles Wang became a developer and owner of the National Hockey League Islanders team.  He and business partner Scott Rechler have proposed a massive 150 acre development including a renovated Nassau Veterans Coliseum (home of the Islanders).  http://www.lighthouseli.com/

On Tuesday, September 22nd zoning hearings were held by the Town of Hempstead.  As a Town of Hempstead resident, living very close to the proposed development I have followed this closely.  On the development itself, I take no position at this time.  However, I have a number of questions which have not been asked to my knowledge, let alone answered.

Will any land be taken by eminent domain and transferred to the developers?  If any, from whom will this land be taken?

Will any taxpayer funds whether federal, state or local be granted or loaned to the developers?  If so, how much?

WIll any loan guaranteees be extended by federal, state and local governments?

Where will the tenants come from to fill the stores, offices and apartments?  Many experts and retailers believe that Long Island is already overstored.

Let us have the reporters and citizens ask these and other questions.  Let us separate sports and state.  We must protect the property rights, not property values, of Long Islanders.  Property values are in the eye of the beholder.  They are bogus. -30-
